"French society is moving towards state Islamophobia," said François Burgat, scholar, Senior Research Fellow at the French National Centre for Scientific Research at the plenary meeting "Islamaphobia in France" at the international conference on "Islamophobia as a specific form of racism and discrimination: New Global and transnational challenges" dedicated to the International Day to Combat Islamophobia, APA reports.
"It has several reasons, firstly it is a banal and simplistic competition between doctrines. But France is no longer a Christian society. When we look closely, we see that those who express hate speech against Muslims are not devout Christians. Another reason is the style of secularism in France. But I believe that Muslims have not changed their dominant doctrine. They are the children of the colonial empire" said François Burgat.
