18 journalists contracted coronavirus, 1 died in Azerbaijan

“COVID-19 infection and death cases among journalists have increased by 2 times in the world”, said Deputy Chairman of the Press Council of Azerbaijan Mushfig Alasgarli, APA reports.

According to him, information was issued on COVID-19 infection and death cases among journalists during 4 months (February-May) on May 16: “Number of journalists, died from coronavirus in the world was 67 then. However, a number of journalists, who contracted with the virus and had severe symptoms were nearly 300. Within a short period of time – during a month's situation has absolutely changed. Negative results of the last month are two times more than the results of the previous 4 months. According to the reports of international organizations, the number of journalists who died from coronavirus in the world has reached 137. The number of total cases is about 1200.”

M. Alasgarli said that the more death cases have been recorded over 31 countries: “The highest figures have been in Latin American countries- 62 people, 23 in Europe, 17 in Asia, 13 in Northern America, and 12 journalists in Africa have lost their lives.
The worst countries in the list are: “ Peru (15 people), Brazil (13), Mexico (13), Ecuador (12), the USA (12), Russia (8), Pakistan (8), Great Britain (5), Bangladesh (4), Bolivia (3), Cameroon (3), France (3), Italy (3), Spain (3), India (3), etc.

Mushfig Alasgarli noted that there was a change in the list last month, and the reports already show the name of Azerbaijan: "If in the first 4 months there was not a single journalist in our country infected with COVID-19, today the situation has worsened. According to the report, 18 journalists were infected with COVID-19 in Azerbaijan, and one died.
