Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources (MENR) and State Food Safety Agency (FSA) of the Republic of Azerbaijan has released a joint statement, FSA told APA.

According to the report of World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), the main cause of the 2019 nCoV coronavirus outbreak in the People's Republic of China and spread across a number of countries around the world is considered warm-blooded and cold-blooded animals, as well as, wild animals and seafood.

At the same time, the World Health Organization (WHO) and OIE concluded that the virus (2019-nCoV) emerged from an animal source.

Based on the obtained experience, the risk of the spread of 2019-nCoV coronavirus by means of wild animals exists for our country as well.

The conducted observations show that currently the cases of illegal keeping of wild animals in a number of public catering facilities, recreation centers and other public places and their use for entertainment purposes are being encountered. Such cases in addition to violating the requirements of legislation, also create favorable conditions for the spread of such virus diseases as coronavirus, rabies, etc.

The Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources (MENR) and the Food Safety Agency of Azerbaijan Republic (AFSA) caution those persons and state that the illegal keeping of wild animals in public catering facilities, recreation centers and other public places is absolutely inadmissible.

The MENR and the AFSA once again call upon citizens to be attentive to the epizootic situation and at the same time to provide relevant information to the Agency’s regional branches, or to “1003-Call Center”, as well as to “Hot Line” #168 of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources when observing the symptoms of the disease, or suspicious cases related to dead wild animals (birds).
