World sees record spikes in daily COVID cases, deaths

The number of deaths attributed to COVID-19 jumped by a record 12,683, data collected from health authorities worldwide showed on Friday, APA reports citing Teletrader.

During the same 24-hour period, new coronavirus infections registered on a global scale also surged to an extent that hasn't been recorded since the start of the outbreak, soaring by 679,194.

More than 65 million people have, so far, contracted the illness, 45 million of whom have managed to successfully recover. The global coronavirus death toll reached 1,511,927, the reading showed.
