The meeting of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Peter Maurer, the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has kicked off, APA’s Moscow correspondent reports.
The protocol part of the meeting held at the Reception House of the Russian Foreign Ministry was open to the press.
S.Lavrov noted that Russia regularly cooperates with the ICRC, and conflicts in the world have not decreased: “We now have an additional platform for cooperation. This is Nagorno-Karabakh. The leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia signed a joint trilateral statement a week ago. A Russian peacekeeping contingent is being deployed there. We know how actively the ICRC operates in that region. We are interested in strengthening our already developing cooperation. Of course, there are a number of regions with which we closely cooperate. I hope that we will discuss this today. I am sure that your visit will be fruitful and will contribute to the development of close cooperation between Russia and the ICRC.
