“We have informed our colleagues from General Secretariat of the Council of Europe about the situation in Nagorno Garabagh conflict zone and measures taken by Russia”, said Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov at the joint press conference held together with the general secretary of the Council of Europe Marija Pejcinovic-Buric, APA’s Moscow correspondent reports.

According to S. Lavrov, currently, the main issue is to halt contradictory rhetoric by the parties and the responsible international players: "While the next important step is to stop military operations and strikes on civilian facilities. All these have found their confirmation in the joint statement of heads of state of the co-chair countries, in the document agreed by ministers of Foreign Affairs in Moscow, and in the document agreed on October 18. Our hopes didn’t come true after meeting in Moscow".

S. Lavrov spoke about the importance of mechanisms of control over ceasefire so that it would be functional: “Our Ministry of Defense together with its counterparts from Azerbaijan and Armenia are actively working over this. I hope that such a mechanism will be agreed in the nearest future”.
