Armenians destroyed forest area of 3,500 ha and 12 natural monuments in Khojavend

"Khojavend district has been one of the most interesting regions of Karabakh from a biodiversity point of view. Total area of forest fund of the district made up 22,428 hectares until occupation, of which 20,403 hectares were covered with forests," Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Vugar Karimov told journalists, APA reports.

Deputy Minister noted that according to satellite descriptions, a forest area of 3537,4 hectares has been determined to be destroyed during the occupation: "There were 12 ancient Oriental planes in the district, which had a status of nature monument (7 oriental planes and 5 azataghaji), 2 geological and paleontological monuments (Azykh and Taghlar Caves and especially precious Azataghaji forest area) in the district until occupation.

Azykh geological paleontological monument in the 15 km of Hadrut settlement was discovered in 1960 and was registered as a natural monument in 1982."
