Fire at a military base in Severodvinsk, in northern Russia’s Arkhangelsk Region, started onboard a vessel, a source in the regional emergencies services told TASS on Thursday, APA reports.

The radiation level in Severodvinsk, where fire has broken out on the territory of a military unit, remains normal, a source in the local law enforcement agencies told TASS.

"The radiation level in Severodvinsk is normal," the source said without mentioning what unit was affected. "One person died in the incident, which started onboard a vessel, and there is fire now," the source stated.

Governor of the Arkhangelsk Region Igor Orlov has confirmed the incident, saying that an ambulance aircraft was dispatched to the scene.

Two people were killed and another 15 were injured, according to preliminary data, during an explosion on the territory of a military unit in the Arkhangelsk region, according to a security source, APA reports citing RIA Novosti.

"The explosion occurred in a military unit 30 kilometres from Severodvinsk. Presumbly, two dead and 15 injured," the source said.

Authorities in the Arkhangelsk region confirmed information about the incident, which happened in a military unit in the village of Nenoksa, according to the press service of the regional governor.

Emergency evacuation helicopters are ready to fly to the area where the incident happened, near the village of Nenoksa in the Arkhangelsk region; hospitals are ready to accept possible victims, the press service of the governor Igor Orlov said.
