Azerbaijan’s State Security Service, in collaboration with the State Customs Committee and the State Border Service, has detained two of its citizens on charges of treason through spying.

The State Security Service told APA that it has documented the correspondences between a foreign secret service agency and Elshan Amiri and Elchin Babayev, both of whom have been transmitting data about the secret staff of Azerbaijan’s law-enforcement agencies, the Defense Ministry’s military units, their combat potential, as well as public facilities of strategic importance since January 2016.

Elshan Amiri and Elchin Babayev are charged with treason (Article 274).

A preventive measure in the form of arrest has been chosen against them.

The investigative operations are continuing.
