Peru’s government has extended the coronavirus quarantine for two more weeks, Andina News Agency reported on Wednesday citing Prime Minister Violeta Bermudez, APA reports citing TASS.

"Despite reports about certain improvements, an extremely risky situation remains in many parts of the country. With this in mind, the Cabinet has decided to extend for 14 days measures enforced in areas with high [epidemiological] risks," she was quoted as saying.

Quarantine measures that have been in place since late January in the capital city and nine departments will be in force in 32 provinces and 17 departments from Monday.

According to the latest update, the country reports more than 1.9 million coronavirus cases and more than 42,000 coronavirus-associated fatalities.
