United States Ambassador to Russia John Sullivan's departure from the post is "part of a normal diplomatic rotation," said an unnamed US Department of State official, APA reports citing The Washington Post.
Sullivan "has served a full tenure [three years] as U.S. ambassador to Russia, managing one of the most critical bilateral relationships in the world during unprecedented times," the official added.
Another Biden administration official noted the leader of the US diplomatic mission to Moscow was expected to leave the position but that a family issue sped up the entire process.
