Forest fire devastates Abay region of Kazakhstan

Forest fires that started on June 8 continue in Kazakhstan, APA reports citing the local media.

Currently, the forest fire in the country covers more than 60,000 hectares hectares. According to the statement issued by the Ministry for Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan, about 1000 firefighters, 237 equipment and 11 helicopters intervene in the fire. According to the information provided by the operational headquarters for extinguishing the fire that occurred in Abay region, during the operation and search measures, the bodies of 11 more people were found, and the identity of the deceased is being determined. With this, the number of people who died in forest fires reached 14 people. Before that, it was announced that the bodies of 3 missing employees of forestry were found.

The Cabinet of Ministers of Kazakhstan announced that Prime Minister Alihan Smaiylov held an emergency meeting regarding the forest fire.

Reported that the fire that started on June 8 in the Semey forest in Abay province in the east of the country started to spread rapidly since yesterday, and firefighters from neighboring states were sent to the region to extinguish the fire.
