Total capacity of projects in area of alternative energy to be brought up to auction in Azerbaijan announced

The total capacity of the projects for 8 geographical territories to be brought up to auctions in the framework of development of alternative energy sector in Azerbaijan amounts to 750 MW, Zaur Mammadov, Head of Administrative Office of Ministry of Energy stated at the international seminar dedicated to evaluation of the status of readiness of Azerbaijan for use of renewable energy sources held in Baku with organizational support of International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and Azerbaijan’s State Agency on Alternative and Renewable Energy Sources (SAARES), "APA-Economics" reports.

He said by attracting investments to the above-mentioned territories, it has been planned to build 5 wind and 3 solar power stations.

Deputy Chairman of SAARES Jamil Malikov delivering a speech at the seminar noted that according to the Strategic Road Map of the State Agency, the activities were continued for installation of wind, solar and biological power stations with the main target to reach 420 MW input capacity by 2020.

Later on, Prasoon Agarwal, Asia Regional Program Officer of IRENA talking on social and economic benefits of renewable energy delivered a presentation related to evaluation of the status of readiness for use of renewable energy sources.
