Baku – APA. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in an interview with Sputnik dismissed allegation about possibility of changing the date of the presidential election in the country.

"We do not have plans to change the date of the [presidential] election. I know about rumors in Azerbaijan and outside the country. We have no such plans, I do not see any necessity in it,” said President Aliyev. “As for my participation or non-participation, the next presidential election is scheduled to occur in two years, it is too early to make conclusions regarding this. If I feel the same support of the population as today, of course I will strive to live up to the expectations.”

The referendum to make amendments to Azerbaijan’s Constitution was held Sept. 26. The voter turnout throughout the country stood at 69.7 percent, or 3,671,707 people.

The referendum was recognized legitimate as more than 25 percent of voters took part in it.
