Anthem of Soviet Union played during Archil Talkvadze’s speech in Georgian Parliament

Parliament of Georgia has approved former Chief Prosecutor Irakli Shotadze on the post of Prosecutor General with 82 votes for and none against, APA reports citing Georgian media.

He personally attended the plenary session.

According to the legislation, Parliament elects Prosecutor Generals for a six-year term.

MPs of the parliamentary opposition - Elene Khoshtaria and Irma Nadirashvili, have turn on the anthem of the Soviet Union in the Parliament, when Parliament Speaker Archil Talkvadze was speaking about the Russian occupation in his annual report.

"There are still people in our political opposition who sold strategic facilities to Russian companies, left soldiers on the battlefield and civilians in a war zone. A resolution accusing Georgia of launching hostilities was signed in the Council of Europe," Talakvadze said.

Elene Khoshtaria compared Talakvadze's speech to a "soviet report", noting that "our country will never be the Soviet Union."

Finally, the opposition MPs were made to leave the session hall.

Shotadze resigned from the position of Prosecutor General of Georgia on May 31, 2018.
