The European Union called on Tehran, today, Saturday, to conduct a thorough investigation into the disaster of the Ukrainian Airlines plane, which Tehran had acknowledged that it was shot down in error, causing the death of all its passengers and crew, APA reports citing Sputnik.

The EU said in a statement, it “acknowledges what was stated in the statements made by the Iranian authorities and hopes that the perpetrators will be held responsible for the crash of the Ukrainian Airlines plane.”

The statement continued that “in light of the commitments announced by the President Rouhani, the European Union expects Iran to continue to cooperate fully and to conduct a comprehensive, transparent investigation consistent with international standards on how this tragedy occurred.

The statement urged “to take appropriate measures to ensure that this terrible accident does not recur.”
