European Union Foreign Affairs and Security Policy High Representative Josep Borrell cautioned that Beijing might "take geopolitical advantage" of Moscow's defeat in Ukraine, the Financial Times wrote on Friday, APA reports citing Teletrader.

"China's ambition is clearly to build a new world order with China in its center... A Russian defeat in Ukraine will not derail China's trajectory," Borrell stressed n a private letter to EU foreign ministers viewed by the Financial Times. "The EU must be aware that many countries see the geopolitical influence of China as a counterweight to the West and therefore to Europe ... They will seek to strengthen their own room for maneuver without picking sides," Borrell underscored.

Previously, Brussels was rumored to be considering sanctions against Chinese firms that are believed to have provided military support to Russia.
