The number of COVID-19 cases in France “will easily exceed 200,000” in the last 24 hours, French Health Minister François Braun announced on Tuesday during a hearing in the National Assembly, APA reports citing AFP.

The seventh epidemiological wave “is growing in recent days” and “we have recorded an average of 120,000 cases (per day) in the last week, the number of cases will easily exceed 200,000 tonight,” he said. Braun in opening a debate on the bill on “health surveillance and security”

Noting the increase in the number of hospitalizations in conventional hospital services and, to a lesser extent, in intensive care, the minister, who works in emergency medicine, stressed that he was so far “very low compared to the January wave” and without it can be compared to previous waves, “of an even greater magnitude.”

In addition to the recommended wearing of the mask “in crowded places, such as here for example, on public transport, on holiday transport”, the minister, who wore a mask during the hearing, recommended a second vaccine booster for the most vulnerable.

“If we get out of the exceptional crisis regimes, we will not get out of the COVID epidemic, however, and we need to maintain certain tools,” which are the subject of two “highly targeted” articles in the bill, the minister added.
