Tens of thousands of Belgrade residents participated in the sixth "Serbia Against Violence" protest on Friday, led by students carrying a banner reading "Students Against Violence," APA reports citing Teletrader.
The protests were held at the call of a part of the opposition due to dissatisfaction with the government's response to two mass crimes committed in early May, which resulted in 18 fatalities. In response to the shooting, the authorities increased police presence in schools and urged citizens to surrender their weapons.
The key demand of the protest is to halt the promotion of violence in public spaces. The list of demands includes the state agency that regulates electronic media, the shutdown of tabloids promoting violence, and the revocation of national frequencies from two national TV stations.
