The transport company Uber announced this Wednesday losses of 6.768 million dollars between January and December 2020, 20% less than the figure registered in fiscal year 2019, when it lost 8.506 million, APA-Economics reports.

Francisco has been greatly affected this year by the Covid-19 pandemic and the consequent reduction in mobility, which has caused his income to fall from the 13,000 million dollars of the previous year to the 11,139 million dollars today.

In this period, the company's shareholders have lost $ 3.86 per share, compared to 6.81 the previous year.

The fact that, despite the reduction in income, Uber has lost less money than last year, it is explained by the company's IPO in May 2019, an operation that was tremendously expensive for the firm and that in the second quarter of that year it registered the worst accounts of its history

Uber, one of the main representatives of the so-called sharing economy together with Airbnb, has seen its main activity, the transport of passengers, plummet during the worst months of the pandemic, and has turned to alternative services such as delivery of food or merchandise to try to cushion the blow

In the last quarter, the turnover for passenger transport fell by 52% year-on-year to 1,471 million dollars res, something unthinkable a year ago, when Uber rides grew at a good pace and constituted, by far, the company's main source of income.

Now, Uber Eats , the food delivery service, has caught up with it. , which has grown by 224% compared to last year and already has a quarterly turnover of 1,356 million dollars , almost the same as passenger transport

Also on the rise but well below food delivery is freight transport, with a 43% rise and $ 313 million in turnover
