In the framework of the regulation and supervision carried out by the Financial Market Supervisory Authority of Azerbaijan (FIMSA) in the financial markets, including the payment systems, has been revealed the fact that banks operating in the occupied territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan provide with services of payment cards carrying the brand of international card companies. Also, revealed the fact of collection of financial aid over the official website of the financial ministry of the so-called Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, APA reports citing press-service of the FIMSA.
According to the FIMSA, the existence of these facts means violating the sovereignty, territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and international legal norms, creating a condition for money laundering, and terrorism financing, as well as violating rules defined by international card organizations. Based on the facts revealed by the FIMSA meetings were held with senior representatives of Visa Inc. and MasterCard Worldwide and mentioned urgently to suspend services of payment cards carrying the brand of international card companies in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan.
Collection of material assistance through payment cards with an international brand over the official website of the Ministry of Finance of the separatist “Nagorno Karabakh Republic” , as well as the acceptance of these payment cards by a network of ATMs of some banks in the Azerbaijan’s occupied territories, was suspended as a result of complex events and joint activities.
In the framework of the regulation and supervision in the field of payment systems, the FIMSA closely monitors the implementation of measures, monitoring services of payment cards carrying the brand of international card companies in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan.
