U.S. Department of State condemns the attack on the Azerbaijani embassy in Iran, offers condolences

The United States condemns the attack on the Azerbaijani embassy that occurred earlier today in Tehran, it was said in a statement of the U.S. Department of State, APA reports.

"We echo President Aliyev’s call for a prompt investigation into this unacceptable violence. We offer our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of those who were killed and injured today. Any attack against diplomats or diplomatic facilities anywhere is unacceptable.

We remind the Government of Iran of its responsibility under the Geneva Convention to protect foreign diplomats in Iran," the statement said.

Note that an armed attack took place at the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Iran on January 27, 2023, at about 8:30 by Baku time. As a result of this vile attack, Orkhan Askerov, the head of the security service of the diplomatic mission, was killed while performing his official duties, and two employees of the Embassy were injured.
