"We have been witnessing significant changes in the last two years. Large areas were cleared of mines, and airports were built in a short period, which was a great achievement," said UNDP (United Nations Development Programme) demining expert Steinar Essen in the opening ceremony of the "Support for increasing the capabilities of ANAMA" project, APA reports.

He said that the contact line with the formerly occupied territories had been cleared in the last two years: "However, so far, the areas cleared of mines cover a certain percentage (10-20 %) of the total mined areas. As you can see, this is a difficult and time-consuming process, but new technologies and support can accelerate this process. ANAMA is not a new organization, it has already been working for more than 20 years, has great experience, and is the main pillar of this process. Azerbaijan announced its readiness to receive support in this process and is working to bring the best experience here. So far, 85,000 mines have been found in the liberated areas, which is an incredible statistic for the last two years."
