The EU continues to fully support the mediation efforts and proposals of the OSCE Minsk Group for the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, said President of the European Council Donald Tusk.

He made the remarks while making the joint statements for the press with Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev who is on a visit to Brussels.

Tusk noted that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict does not have a military solution and needs only political settlement in accordance with international law.

He pointed out that the status quo in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is unsustainable.

Tusk added that they also discussed the situation of fundamental freedoms, including those of human rights and opinion.

“We think that open society is a guarantor for stability and well-being. We’re hoping to continue cooperating over this area as well. Azerbaijan is playing the role of intercultural bridge, which is an extremely important value in the context of the challenges we’re faced with in our vicinity,” he added.
