"If today's Turkey had existed many years ago, the Khojaly genocide and the occupation of Azerbaijani lands would not have happened," Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said in an interview with Turkish media, APA's Istanbul correspondent reports.
According to him, the Turkish government at that time did not support Azerbaijan against the Armenian occupation.
The minister also emphasized the need to strengthen the Turkic world.
"We need to unite our forces. Self-confidence of the Turkic world has been restored after Azerbaijan freed its lands from occupation. Everyone (member countries of the Organization of Turkic States) says that if we need it, Turkey will be by our side," the minister added.
