Criminal case initiated regarding incident of downing of Mi-24 helicopter owned by Russia - OFFICIAL

As was reported, at 18.30 on November 9, on Nakhchivan part of Armenia-Azerbaijan border, 2 military servicemen died, while 1 was wounded, press service of the General Prosecutor’s Office told APA.

In regard to that incident, the investigative measures was immediately started by the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the criminal case was initiated by the General Prosecutor on 09.11.2020 based on clause 342.2 (negligent approach to service – in case of causing death of two or more persons by recklessness, as well as when it is committed in war time or combat condition) of the Criminal Code in order to investigate comprehensively, fully and objectively the details of the occurred incident and the conduction of the investigation was assigned to the Military Prosecutor’s Office of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

The visual inspection of the system from which the rocket was launched, as well as the information systems was conducted under this criminal case by employees of the prosecutor’s office with participation of military specialists, the military servicemen of the military unit from which the rocket was launched were interrogated, the necessary documents were taken and other necessary investigative actions were implemented.

Currently, the intensive investigative and operational measures are continued in the area of determining and bringing to responsibility of guilty person or persons under the aforementioned incident.

In connection with that criminal case, general Prosecutor of the Republic of Azerbaijan Kamran Aliyev addressed an official letter to General Prosecutor of the Russian Federation Igor Krasnov, at the same time, a telephone conversation took place between them.

During the telephone communication, the General Prosecutor extending his condolence to his Russian counterpart in connection with persons who died as a result of the incident wished recovery to the wounded military serviceman, also briefing his colleague on the initial investigative actions implemented under the initiated criminal case, assured him that the full, objective and comprehensive investigation will be conducted.

The General Prosecutor of the Russian Federation in his turn noted that a criminal case was also initiated and the investigation was conducted on their part in regard to that incident and the coordinated conduction of investigation together with the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan will serve for improvement of the work efficiency.

Igor Krasnov expressed his gratitude for showing of urgent response and taking necessary measures by the Azerbaijani party in regard to the incident.

Besides, the General Prosecutor of the Russian Federation expressing his satisfaction with the signed trilateral statement dated 10.11.2020, noting that the implementation of the provisions reflected in the statement will serve for interests of the parties including the Azerbaijani people, specially stressed he is hopeful that the deployment of the peace-making forces in the region will play effective role in establishment of peace and law and order.

Kamran Aliyev and his Russian counterpart said they are confident that the close cooperation and friendship relations between prosecutor’s offices of our countries in all areas will also successfully develop from now on.
