Foreigners detained in Baku for attempting to exchange counterfeit money in bank

3 foreign nationals have attempted to exchange a large sum of counterfeit US dollars in a bank in Baku’s Yasamal district, the Interior Ministry’s press service told APA.

Their attempt was prevented by a security guard. Shortly after, police officers arrived and detained the foreigners.

Investigation revealed that the detainees are Chinese citizens Chen Meng Lin and Lin Zhi Fang, and Russian citizen Mahammadrasul Rasulov. They were found carrying a total of 18,900 US dollars, which was seized as material evidence. The offenders admitted to bringing the money to the country in order to sell them and spend the cash in trade centers in Baku.

A criminal case has been opened. The fact is under investigation.
