The Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ali Asadov has signed the decree “On some measures regarding the elimination of negative influence of coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic to the education process in the country’s education institutions”, APA reports.

According to the decision, a change has been made in the “Procedures of admission of students to higher education institutions of the Azerbaijan Republic”.

According to the decision in force, the higher education program applicants passing admission examination in the Russian language take a separate exam in the Azerbaijani language (as the official language) subject. At this examination, some 30 tasks in the Azerbaijani language (as the official language) subject are presented to the applicants. The maximum score that may be gained by the applicants is 30 points. The duration of the examination is 1 hour and 30 minutes. The result of this examination is evaluated as “satisfactory” or “non-satisfactory”, and those who receive “satisfactory” grade obtain access to admission examinations (choosing of specialty) in the contests held for two (current and next) academic years.

According to this change, the duration of the examination will be 45 minutes.

According to the decision in force, the second phase of the examinations for admission to higher education institutions is implemented for the specialty groups for which the admission to the education institutions is being conducted, remains valid for 1 year and gives to the applicant only the right to participate in the contest held for admission of students to the higher education institutions. The admission examinations are held twice per each academic year – in the form of spring and summer sessions. During each session, the applicant may participate only in one examination for the specialty group desired by him.

According to the change, the provision regarding the implementation of admission examinations twice per each academic year – in the form of spring and summer sessions is abolished. At the same time, the applicant may participate in the admission examination for only one of the I-IV specialty groups. Irrespective of the applicant’s participation in the admission examination for one of the I-IV specialty groups, the applicant may also take part in the examination for the V specialty group.

According to the decision in force, the contest in the specialties included in I-IV specialty groups of the higher education institutions has been conducted on the basis of the total score gained by the applicant at the admission examination (as a result of the two phases). While the applicant participated in several admission examinations held for the same specialty group in the same academic year, he has himself determined with the result of which examination he will participate in the contest. This provision has also been abolished.

This decision will remain valid until October 1, 2020.
