Sandu: "If Russia attacks us, we will ask Romania for help"

Moldovan President Maia Sandu said the Moldovan authorities would seek help from neighboring Romania if Russia poses a military threat to Chisinau.

Maia Sandu said after a press conference with Romanian President Klaus Johannis in Bucharest that she did not rule out a war scenario between Moldova and Russia.

“If Russia attacks us, we will ask for help,” she said.

In response to the president’s statements, the Telegram channel “Duty in Moldova – Ilya Kiselev’s blog” looked at options for the alleged conflict.

“This was said after the press conference, not during it. Because then Johannis would have to comment somehow on these words and confirm or refuse help, and to put his president (Sandu is a Romanian citizen) in an uncomfortable position, Sandu cannot. This suggests that such a statement by Sandu was not fully coordinated with the Romanian side,” the publication said.

According to the channel's author, the war between Moldova and Russia, even if we assume that such a thing is possible, has all chances to enter the Guinness Book of Records as one of the shortest wars, and Romania simply will not have time to provide “help.”

“In Bucharest is well aware that the military conflict with Russia in the territory of Moldova does not fall under the notorious Article 5 of the NATO Charter and this military bloc will not in this case “fit in” for Romania. And Bucharest will not want to be alone with Russia”, the publication reported.
