The Sudanese Foreign Ministry has released an urgent statement declaring the United Nations envoy to Sudan, Volker Peretz, as an undesirable person, APA reports citing BNN.

The government of Sudan officially notified UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres of this decision, stating that it takes effect immediately.

The statement, published on the ministry’s official Twitter page, highlights the government’s stance on Mr. Peretz’s role as the representative of the UN Secretary-General and head of the Unitams mission.

This recent move by the Sudanese government comes after the commander of the Sudanese armed forces, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, called for the replacement of Volker Peretz. In a letter addressed to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, al-Burhan expressed concerns about the negative perception associated with Peretz’s presence and questioned the effectiveness of his leadership in implementing the mandate of Unitams.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, in response to the request for Peretz’s replacement, expressed shock and reaffirmed his confidence in Peretz. The UN spokesman took to Twitter to convey Guterres’ pride in Peretz’s work and his full support.
