Schools in Mexico will not reopen at the start of the academic year on 24 August as the number of cases are too high, the country’s education minister has said, APA reports citing BBC.
Esteban Moctezuma said the decision was made to safeguard the health of students and teachers.
In response, the government has made a deal with major television networks to broadcast a nation-wide homeschooling scheme.
More than 47,000 people have died in Mexico and more than 439,000 cases have been confirmed.
“The pandemic represents one of the greatest challenges of our time,” Mr Moctezuma said.
