US inflation at 7.0% in December, 39-year high

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for all items in the United States saw an annual increase of 7.0% in December, observing a rise in comparison to 6.8% recorded in November and reaching the figure's highest level since June 1982, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics revealed in its report published on Wednesday, APA reports citing Teletrader.

The index for all times apart from food and energy experienced a growth of 5.5%, the highest year-on-year boost since the period ending February 1991. The energy index surged by 29.3% in comparison to the same period last year, while the food one went up by 6.3%.

On a monthly level, the CPI gained 0.5% on a seasonally adjusted basis compared with the previous month. Meanwhile, the index for all items less food and energy increased by 0.6%.
