Tokyo governor Yuriko Koike (pictured) unveiled on Thursday that she intends to urge the Japanese government to introduce emergency measures aimed at limiting the spread of COVID-19 in the country's capital region, APA reports citing Teletrader.

During a press conference that followed Koike's meeting with the prefecture's health authorities, she pointed out the third wave of the pandemic could prove itself more dangerous and deadly than the preceding two, due to the increased circulation of COVID variants.

Japan imposed stricter containment measures in Osaka, Hyogo, and Miyagi prefectures a week ago, while Osaka declared a state of emergency earlier this week.
