“Tourists coming from Iran a little bit differ from the ones who come from other countries. The difference is that the international payment systems do not work in Iran. They mostly pay in cash. In other words, the issue of pre-order is a bit difficult there. Therefore there is no exact figure on how much order has been done for coming from Iran to Azerbaijan in Novruz holiday,” the press secretary of State Tourism Agency Kenan Guluzade told APA.

According to him, the crisis regarding exit from Iran was experienced due to political and economic issues last year, ie they could not leave the country: “For this reason only 35 thousand people came from Iran to Azerbaijan in March, however, this figure was 71 thousand in 2018. Afterward, the situation in Iran improved and according to the results of the last year, the number of Iranian citizens coming to Azerbaijan exceeded 255 thousand people. This was 6,3% more in the annual indicator. In January of this year, the number of foreign citizens coming to Azerbaijan increased by 18 percent, while the number of citizens coming from Iran increased by 26,5 percent. In January of this year, the number of people coming from Iran to Azerbaijan was 13 thousand people. Our forecasts were that while taking into consideration unchangeable conditions- ie coronavirus is a very serious variable factor- the number of citizens coming from Iran to Azerbaijan will increase about 20 percent in comparison to the previous year.”

The official of the agency said that coronavirus crisis does not depend solely on the decisions made at the government level. This is a common global, psychological crisis. The people cancel their travels because of the psychological panic in the world: “ This belongs to all the world. Therefore we will know the exact figures in the final.”
