Restaurants and swimming pools will not reopen in Kyiv yet, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko has said, APA reports citing Ukrinform.

He said this at a briefing on Friday, June 5, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"The government has allowed most cities, where the figures are within the limits set by the government, to move to the next stage of easing [coronavirus lockdown restrictions], in particular, to reopen restaurants, cafes and swimming pools from June 5. In Kyiv, one of the three figures regarding the number of patients per 100,000 population currently exceeds the norm and is 14.9%," Klitschko said.

According to him, the city cannot risk people's health and introduce even greater relaxations.

"I understand businesses. I understand that they need to work. But we do not want to return to lockdown," Klitschko said.

He noted that the decision on the operation of restaurants and swimming pools would be made separately, based on the situation with the incidence in the coming days.

"The city's emergency situations commission will consider this issue after the weekend, next week," Klitschko said.

Kyiv reported 3,292 cases of coronavirus as of June 5. Eighty-two new cases have been recorded in the city in the past 24 hours.
