Ukraine records over 1 mln COVID-19 cases since beginning of pandemic

The total number of people infected with coronavirus (COVID-19) disease in Ukraine since the beginning of the pandemic as of Thursday morning exceeded 1 million people, while 11,490 new cases of the disease were recorded over the past day, some 15,775 people recovered and 223 patients died, Health Minister of Ukraine Maksym Stepanov said, APA reports citing Interfax.

"There are 11,490 new cases of COVID-19 disease in Ukraine as of December 24, 2020. In particular, some 488 children and 445 medical workers fell ill. Some 2,721 people were hospitalized; some 223 patients died and 15,775 people recovered over the past day," Stepanov wrote on his Facebook page on Thursday morning.

A day earlier, on December 23, there were 10,136 new cases of the disease, some 8,513 cases of COVID-19 infection were recorded on December 22, some 6,545 new cases were reported on December 21 and some 8,325 cases were recorded on December 20.

The number of infected people since the beginning of the pandemic on Thursday morning exceeded the 1 million mark, while 17,395 people died from COVID-19 and some 631,435 people recovered. Over the past day, the largest number of confirmed cases was registered in Kyiv city (1,377), Zaporizhia (774), Odesa (676), Kyiv (666) and Donetsk (636) regions.
