Chief Scientist of the World Health Organization (WHO) Soumya Swaminathan stated on Thursday that the AstraZeneca plc's coronavirus vaccine candidate is the most advanced vaccine currently in terms of development, APA reports citing Tele Trader.

It is probably the world's leader in the race to find the vaccine, she said, adding that Moderna's candidate does not trail behind AstraZeneca's project by much.

It was reported last week that Germany, France, the Netherlands and Italy have agreed to pay €750 million to acquire 300 million doses of AstraZeneca's vaccine.
