North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said on Thursday the alliance will discuss Russia and China's activities in Africa at its forthcoming summit, APA reports citing Teletrader.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa in Lisbon, Stoltenberg said the topics of the summit, which will take place in Vilnius in July, will include "the continued threat of terrorism and instability in the South" and "Russia's destabilizing actions in Africa, and now Russia and China are making in-roads in the region." He said NATO "must do more to build defense capacity with key partners in the South, such as Tunisia, Mauritania and Jordan."

Commenting on the conflict in Ukraine, Stoltenberg reiterated that the alliance will stand with the crisis-hit country "for as long as it takes" while stressing that "Ukrainian forces have the capabilities they need to retake occupied land."
