European Commission Executive Vice-President Margrethe Vestager commented on Wednesday on Elon Musk's policy of allowing Twitter users to buy a blue check mark, previously used to designate verified accounts, APA reports citing CNBC.

"If you are to pay to be vetted and to be certified as being who you are and everyone can be you... I think that business model simply is completely flawed," she said.

Vestager listed several features that made Twitter "a much more trustworthy social platform" in the past, including providing news articles and official information during the COVID-19 pandemic. "I think it’s very sad to see that the people who ventured these innovations, that they seem to have no say," she added.
