Five Marseille fans were arrested amid violent scenes in the north London as the team played Spurs in the Champions League, APA reports.
The arrests on Wednesday night were for a string of offenses, including possession of offensive weapons, affray, drunk and disorderly, and drugs.
During the match, which Tottenham won 2-0, missiles were thrown on several occasions.
One officer was injured during an arrest and suffered a suspected broken hand.
Marseille fans tried to get to the home section and pulled down a Pride banner. They also threw bottles and clashed with riot police.
A smoke canister was also hurled towards the pitch. Declan McCarthy tweeted: “Ugly scenes at the Tottenham Stadium. Fighting, flares, and missiles were thrown by the visiting fans. Marseilles Ultras pull down a Pride flag in the corner of the ground. Disgusting to see. Riot police arrive to calm things down.”
The most serious trouble flared in stoppage time after Antonio Conte’s team was seconds away from victory.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “Five people have been arrested at the Champions League match Tottenham Hotspurs FC versus Marseille FC on Wednesday, 7 September.
“The arrests were for a variety of offenses including offensive weapon, affray, drunk and disorderly and drugs; all those arrested are believed to be away supporters. During the match, missiles were thrown on several occasions.
“One officer was injured during an arrest and suffered a suspected broken hand. There was serious disorder at the end of the fixture, and additional officers were deployed to restore and maintain order.”
