Chairman of Milli Majlis Ogtay Asadov has met with Irakli Kobakhidze, the Chairman of Georgian Parliament, APA reports.

O.Asadov has stated in the meeting that friendship of Azerbaijani and Georgian people has an ancient history, they support each other in hard times.

O.Asadov said that our relations have developed and raised to the level of the strategic partnership since Azerbaijan and Georgia both gained their independence: “We are glad that our economic relations have developed alongside with the political relations. Trade turnover was more than 590 million in 2018. Azerbaijan was one of the key investors of Georgia. Azerbaijan has invested more than 3 billion to Georgia. Trade turnover was 243 million by the month of April this year.”

O.Asadov noted that Azerbaijan and Georgia are the stakeholders of big projects in the region: “Baku-Tbilisi-Jeyhan oil pipeline, TANAP project, Tap project 87% of which is ready, is the reflection of our role in European energy security. We are glad that our countries implement projects not only in energy but also in the transportation sectors. One of this is Baku-Tbilisi-Gars railway project. We are sure that the two countries will get great revenues after the project will work with full power. I was glad when I saw SOCAR gas stations when I was visiting Georgia last time. SOCAR is doing great works in Georgia. If someone will not prevent us, Azerbaijan and Georgia will develop more fastly. We want to believe and haven’t lost our hopes that Southern Ossetia, Abkhazia, and Nagorno Karabakh conflicts will be resolved within the territorial integrity of our countries.

Irakli Kobakhidze stated that Georgia and Azerbaijan are strategic, reliable partners: “Azerbaijan's respect for Georgia's territorial integrity is very important for us. Georgia also respects the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. We hope that these conflicts will be resolved through peace. In general, peace and stability are of great importance for our countries. Without peace and stability, major problems will prevent the development of our countries.”

Irakli Kobakhidze noted that that the two countries cooperate in bilateral and multilateral formats.

The chairman of the Georgian Parliament said that the development of economic relations between the two countries is very important: “But we have many opportunities in perspectives and we should use those opportunities. The most important issue is energy and transport projects. Tripartite projects implemented with the participation of Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Georgia are crucial. Georgia stands in 6th place in the world for business development. This will help Azerbaijani companies to become more active. Cooperation in the field of culture and education is also important for us.”

O. Asadov expressed his gratitude to Georgian delegation for their support to Azerbaijani representative Asaf Hajiyev, who is elected the Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization (BSEC), at the 53rd meeting of the General Assembly of the BSEC PA held in Baku today
