Embassies in Azerbaijan make some changes in their activities due to coronavirus threat - UPDATED

Pakistan’s Embassy to Azerbaijan has announced suspension of consular service due to “COVID-19” pandemic, APA reports.

The embassy said in connection with the spread of "COVID-19” virus and taking into consideration the preventative steps of the Azerbaijani government, the activity of the Embassy’s consular service has been suspended till March 30.

And France’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan Zacharie Gross has appealed to the French citizens living in Azerbaijan. The Ambassador said in his appeal the situation in the area of health is difficult in his country, and noted that the coronavirus pandemic hasn’t left out Azerbaijan as well: “We call on you to respect the instructions and recommendations given by the local authorities. The French embassy published on its official website the official and confirmed data related to this topic.

Z. Gross noted that the embassy is open but its activity has been brought in accordance with the health related protocol.

“Thus, it has been decided to stay less in office and to pay attention to using telecommunication facilities as much as possible. We wish you courage and endurance, and I hope to meet with you again as soon as the situation allows for it", the ambassador noted in his appeal.

Coronavirus pandemics (COVID-19) has also effected activities of Embassies of foreign countries to Azerbaijan, the Turkish Embassy told APA.

Sanitary-epidemiological rules are being seriously followed in the Embassy regarding coronavirus danger.

“We take into consideration the recommendations of specialists, scientists. Our events, planned to be held, have been postponed”, noted the Embassy.

Israeli Embassy to Azerbaijan told APA that the Embassy continues its work regularly: “The Embassy continues to work regularly, while we follow the advice of the Government of Azerbaijan to avoid crowded events and places. We made some modifications to our consular work mainly we request to call ahead consult with the staff and make an appointment before coming to the embassy."

Embassy of the USA in Azerbaijan told APA that they closely follow the information on spreading COVID-19 pandemic both global and local levels: "The United States Embassy in Baku is closely monitoring developments related to the spread of the COVID19 Coronavirus both globally and locally. We are speaking with our Azerbaijani counterparts on how we can assist each other at this unique and challenging time. The Embassy is continuing operations, but has implemented guidelines from WHO and the Centers for Disease Control, maximizing teleworking and other social distancing measures. We are also reminding our staff to wash their hands frequently for full 20 seconds, cover their mouths when they cough or sneeze and stay home if they are sick."

The German Embassy in Azerbaijan has not yet implemented special rules in its activity: “The Embassy continues its work in accordance with the recommendations of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry. We follow closely instructions and information of task force under Azerbaijan’s Cabinet of Ministers,” the Embassy stated.

Latvian Embassy in Azerbaijan stated that it suspended accepting applications for visa, the Embassy posted on Facebook.

"Due to the spreading of the Coronavirus (COVID 19), the Government of the Republic of Latvia has declared a state of emergency until 14 April 2020. All flights, train, and bus services to Latvia are canceled.

Therefore Schengen visa applications with an entry date to Latvia before 14 April are no longer accepted at the VFS Global who is representing the Embassy of Latvia in Baku for visa issues.
