Hikmat Hajiyev: “Azerbaijan is ready to receive UNESCO mission”

As a continuation of the telephone conversation between the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay, on February 15 and March 16, 2021, meetings were held in a video-conference format between Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Head of the Department of Foreign Policy Affairs of the Presidential Administration Hikmat Hajiyev and Nicolas Cassionides, Head of the Office of the Director-General of UNESCO, APA reports.

During the meetings, discussions were held on the UNESCO mission invited by Azerbaijan in accordance with the Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict adopted in 1954 to liberated territories.

Hikmat Hajiyev noting that Azerbaijan gives great importance to cooperation with UNESCO and always open to a constructive dialogue has once expressed that Azerbaijan is ready to accept the UNESCO mission to assess the damage to cultural and religious monuments in the liberated territories from the occupation of Azerbaijan in the last video-meeting.

H. Hajiyev noted that a scale of vandalism committed by Armenia during 30 years of occupation to the cultural and religious heritage of the Azerbaijani people in those areas is terrible.
