A mistake regarding Azerbaijan in secondary school history textbook in Russia has been eliminated, the press service of Embassy of Azerbaijan to Russia told APA’s Moscow correspondent.

It has been noted that on page 90, 6th edition of 9th grade textbook “История России. XIX – начало ХХ века” published by Dropha publishing house, authors of Lyashenko, O. V. Volobuyev, Y. V. Simonova, it is noted that according to the Turkmenchay peace treaty, signed in 1828, “Eastern Armenia” became part of Russia.

At the 91st page of “История России 9. Часть 1” history textbook for 9th grade published by Enlightenment publishing house in 2020, authors N. M. Arsentyev, A. A. Danilov, A. A. Levandowski, A. Y. Tokareva, there is stressed that according to the Turkmenchay peace treaty signed in 1828, the khanates of Irevan and Nakhchivan, which were the territory of "Eastern Armenia", became part of Russia.

Taking into account that the textbooks distort the historical facts and the territory of "Eastern Armenia" not mentioned in the text of the Turkmenchay Treaty at all,  the Embassy addressed to Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Enlightenment of the Russian Federation making relevant corrections.

An official response letter received by the Embassy from the Ministry of Enlightenment of the Russian Federation states that the term "Eastern Armenia historical region" is used in Soviet and Russian historical literature to describe the terms of the Turkmenchay Treaty signed between Russia and Iran in 1828, which reflected the transfer of the Iravan and Nakhchivan khanates to Russia.

Considering that this historical region is not mentioned in the text of the Turkmenchay Treaty, a correction has been made in the relevant part of the textbook of 9th class “История России. XIX – начало ХХ века” and the note on "Eastern Armenia" was removed from the text.

It was noted that the next editions of the textbook will be published in an amended version.
