An event dedicated to the 246th anniversary of the independence of the United States was held in Baku, APA reports.
Minister of Finance of Azerbaijan Samir Sharifov also participated in the event.
The minister said that the partnership between the two countries is based on the interests of both sides and mutual respect. Samir Sharifov emphasized the successful cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United States in the fields of energy and the fight against terrorism.
He recalled President Joe Biden's letter to President Aliyev: "The favorable views expressed by the President regarding our relations in the letter addressed to him is an indication that our relations are based on a sound foundation and cooperation by once again demonstrating the strategic importance of our cooperation."
The minister said that the government of Azerbaijan highly appreciates the support provided by the US government in the implementation of the country's huge energy projects: "There is a revival of contacts between our countries at a high level."
S. Sharifov added that Azerbaijan ended the long-term Armenian occupation by winning the 44-day war. “Today, Azerbaijan is taking purposeful steps to establish peace and partnership in the region, and wishes to turn the region into a place of cooperation and development. From this point of view, it is important to achieve the signing of the peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia as soon as possible. We hope that the United States shares and supports the efforts of the Azerbaijani state aimed at the reconstruction and integration of our territories freed from occupation into the country's economy and ensuring a great return to our historical lands in order to establish long-term peace and security in the region,” the minister noted.
Addressing the event, US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Lee Litzenberger said that Azerbaijan and the US closely share values related to independence and sovereignty. Partnership and friendship with Azerbaijan are highly valued.
