On February 27, 2023, the 273rd meeting of the Permanent Representatives Council was held within the framework of Azerbaijan's chairmanship of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), APA reports citing Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.

The event took place in a hybrid format with the participation of Ali Alizadeh, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Islamic Republic of Iran, Khusrov Noziri, Secretary General of the ECO, and heads of the diplomatic missions of the ECO member states in Tehran.

A minute of silence was observed at the beginning of the meeting in memory of the embassy employee who was martyred during the terrorist attack on the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Islamic Republic of Iran, as well as those who died as a result of the earthquake in Türkiye.

The meeting discussed the results of the 26th meeting of the ECO Council of Ministers, which was held in Tashkent on January 24, this year, as well as issues related to the preparation for the 27th meeting of the Organization's Council of Ministers, which is scheduled to be held in Baku this year, and the 16th summit meeting to be held in Uzbekistan.

A new item on the present situation regarding the implementation of our chairmanship of the organization in the current year was added to the meeting agenda at the initiative of our country. During the item's discussion, the Azerbaijani delegation briefed the committee about the terrorist attack on the Azerbaijani Embassy in Iran on January 27.

It was brought to the attention of the representatives of the member states that the organizers and perpetrators of the terrorist act must be quickly identified and brought to justice, as well as the need for the host country, the Islamic Republic of Iran, to fulfill its obligations under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, including the protection and security of diplomatic missions. In this regard, emphasizing that Iran also hosts the ECO headquarters, the importance of ensuring the diplomatic immunities of the ECO Secretariat and ECO member states was emphasized.

In addition, despite the restrictions on physically chairing ECO Council meetings due to the evacuation of our embassy from Tehran as a result of the terrorist attack, the events planned to be hosted by Azerbaijan within the framework of our ECO chairmanship in 2023, as well as the performance of other upcoming obligations, will be fully ensured.

At the end of the meeting, attendees were informed of the agreed-upon dates for the next Council of Permanent Representatives meeting.
