More than 600 journalists from 59 countries have died as a result of coronavirus infection in the past 10 months, Press Emblem Campaign (PEC) non-governmental organization said this in Geneva on Tuesday, APA reports quoting TASS.

"Of the 602 journalists who have died from COVID-19 since the beginning of March, more than half of the deaths are in Latin America - 303," PEC said. This is followed by Asia (145), Europe (94), North America (32) and Africa (28).

“Because of their profession, journalists heading to the field to witness events are particularly vulnerable to the virus. Some of them, in particular freelancers and photographers, simply cannot work from home,” said the organization's secretary general, Blaise Lampan.
