"Religious threats by the Islamic Republic of Iran in the direction of religious position are not a new issue. We have felt this since the first years of our independence," Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations of Azerbaijan Sayavush Heydarov told journalists, APA reports.

He noted that special measures have been taken against this by the relevant state institutions, as well as security institutions and this process is always kept under control.

In general, experience shows that getting religious education abroad does not justify itself. Because the education in those countries serves their politics, people, who get an education there, are inevitably influenced by foreign religious ideology. Institute of Theology has been operating in Azerbaijan since 2018 and our national religious personnel is being formed,” he added.

Deputy Chairman of the State Committee has also commented on the exposing spy networks working for the Iranian government. He has noted that such activities have always existed.

“Level of professionalism of state security bodies today at such a level that these kinds of active measures will be taken from now on and threats against our country will be prevented on time. Unequivocally, we can say that operational conditions, as well as religious security issues, are maintained at the center of attention in Azerbaijan enough. Necessary measures will be taken if it is necessary,” he added.
