524 people infected with HIV in Azerbaijan this year

According to the Republican Center of the Ministry of Health for Combating AIDS , 9.9% of HIV infection cases among Azerbaijani citizens in the first 9 months of 2019, and in general, 41.1% of the infections since 1987 to October 1, 2019 occured as a result of injection drug use, Permanent Working Group of the State Commission on Combating Drug Abuse and Illegal Trafficking told APA.

According to the data, 3258 patients out of 7932 HIV-infected people who have been diagnosed since 1988, were drug users, of which 2564 of them (79.3%) have been registered in the dispensary.

Simultaneously, a decline in the number of new HIV-infected drug cases in the country is being observed. 34 (9.9%) out of 524 HIV-infected Azerbaijani citizens were injecting drug users during the first 9 months of 2019.
