The United States-Mexico border is set to remain closed to non-essential travel through to December 21, as revealed by the Mexican Secretariat of External Relations, the country's government department responsible for foreign affairs, APA reports citing Teletrader.

The decision was made after reviewing the spread of coronavirus in both nations as of late, the department said and explained that most of the border areas in Mexico have turned yellow from the epidemiological traffic light and remain under travel restrictions over a spike in infections anyway.

The month-long measures were imposed back in March and were, since, extended monthly, allowing only essential workers and temporary foreign workers to cross the border.
